Rally for the Petaluma CIR
(Community Impact Report)
January 28th 2008
Petaluma City Council
11 English St., Petaluma CA
The Living Wage Coalition, Petaluma Neighborhood Association, Petaluma Community Coalition, and Petaluma Tomorrow have introduced the proposed CIR (Community Impact Report) to the city of Petaluma. The CIR is an innovative policy tool that can help policy-makers and city staffs make sound decisions on proposed projects. The CIR functions as a corollary to the EIR (Environmental Impact Report) by factoring in the impacts on small businesses, public health and welfare services, job quality, and affordable housing. Our ordinance is similar to a recent state law passed in Maine, the Informed Growth Act. We believe that the CIR will improve the quality of development in the city of Petaluma, and serve as a model for other cities in the county.
Speakers will include Scott Stegeman, North Bay planning consultant; local business owner Linda Ham; Ken Jacobs (UC Center for Labor Research and Education); and Marty Bennett (co-chair Living Wage Coalition).
Please show up for this landmark event, and help Petaluma and Sonoma County move to the Smart Growth with Shared Prosperity path. GP comments from PCC including FCIR guidelines (PDF)
